One of the Family
We just finished our hike across Bulgaria—650km following the Stara Planina / Balkan Ridge from Kom Peak in the west to Cape Emine on the Black Sea in the east—which took us 23 days, including one and a half rest days. I have to say, the hike exceeded expectations in every possible respect, and is surely one of the most underrated (and little known) established trails in Europe. We met only one fellow through-hiker on the trail, one non-Bulgarian, and no Americans, but we were treated with great hospitality everywhere we went and made many friends. Much more on the trail later, but for now we have a week of visiting and tourism before one last hike and an unavoidable return to reality in late August.
