Healthy Communities Delaware Symposium
Healthy Communities Delaware is a consortium of public, nonprofit and private organizations committed to taking a collective approach to align efforts and invest in projects, programs and policies aimed at improving the health of people in low-wealth communities in the state. Led by the State of Delaware, the University of Delaware and the Delaware Community Foundation, and guided by a diverse Leadership Council, HCD is committed to effective and sustainable ways of investing in our local communities to reduce the health disparities that exist from one zip code or neighborhood to another. “We have to talk about health in a different way,” said DHSS Secretary Dr. Kara Odom Walker, one of the speakers at the Jan. 14 "Aligning for Better Health Symposium" at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington. The symposium was an opportunity for Delawareans to learn about the HCD model, whose tagline is: “Alignment. Investment. Impact.” The Jan. 14 event also served to inspire participants to align for better health in Delaware. Other speakers included Gov. John Carney, Sen. Chris Coons and John Auerbach of Trust for America’s Health, who said, “The notion is everybody can be working on prevention.”
