Hot tubbing and sunbathing snake 3
While checking out the lake after our day hike, I was walking very slowly and quietly hoping to see trouts in the lake. As I slowly approached this rock and ever so slowly peered over the edge, I saw this snake’s head. It was sunbathing on a rock that had an inch of water lapping over it which made the water warmer than the lake - a nice “hot tub” soak!
I slowly and quietly retreated to pull out my iPhone and I slowly and quietly leaned back over the edge and took a series of photos before it dashed off into the water.
Location: Taken at Deadfall Lakes, Mt. Eddy, CA. On 7/1/2018. Elevation 7259. Oregon Garter Snake, Thamnophis atratus hydrophilus.
