Hartland Abbey, North Devon
Hartland Abbey proper was built in 1157 and later adopted int the Augustinian order.and was quite prosperous.
In 1539 it was the last monastery to be dissolved by Henry VIII. The King gave the building to William Abbot, his Sergeant of the Wine Cellar at Hampton Court. It then passed through several owners and alterations until the 1800s when came into the ownership of t the present Stucely family.
