"The Alpha Cafe" 1958
Does anyone remember this great Essex cyclist's café situated on the old A11 road, near Buckhurst Hill.
This picture shows the quaint annual tradition ( in our club, at least ) of dressing up as tramps or hobos, or at a push anything outrageous or hideous. We then gathered for a ride out to a chosen venue, where we would be gazed upon with some bewilderment by all who witnessed the strange spectacle.
After being dismissed as participants in an idiot's day out, we would then ride back to the place in East London where we all parted and continued to our individual addresses, hoping to God that you would not seen by anyone that knew you.
