#094 Christmas 1914
So I have loads of stuff in the cupboard. Most of it’s tat. Tat that I love having but tat nonetheless ♂️. Amongst my stuff I have some real treasures. This is one of these and prob one of my favourite things. Most people will know the story behind the tin and will have no doubt seen one before. Many may have one or know someone that does. There were over two million given to servicemen and women during the First World War. They are not that rare. In fact I believe it took so long to get them out they were still being given out in 1920. I believe there were originally 400,000 given out in the Christmas of 1914 (of which this is one) and having it makes me happy. It contained the two war medals, a Christmas card (not shown) and a bullet. The bullet concealed a pencil. A well used and worn down, wee pencil. I can only begin to imagine that a soldier in WW1 used it to write home over 100 years ago. And that blows my mind . #094 #365days #365photoproject
