Wolf Point, where the north & south branches of the Chicago River join to become one Chicago River

The river used to flow into Lake Michigan along with all the pollution both branches of the river accumulated. The Sanitary & Ship Canal was built in 1900 to reverse the flow to the Chicago River so that Lake Michigan flowed into the river & all the way downstream to the Des Plaines River, then to the Illinois River, then to the Mississippi River & then to the Gulf of Mexico.
