#History

The Provincial Museum of Antiquities was established in 1854. The museum started with one cupboard in the provincial government building, which was part of the monastery “Maria in Campis”. It was housed in the new National Archives building in the early 1900s. The “Receiver's House” was purchased in 1964 and ten years later the museum moved to the provincial house. The Drostenhuis (1978) and the Abbey Church (1982) were also added to the museum. The museum has been called “Drents Museum” since 1996
