The Drents Museum is located in Assen, on the site of the former convent “Maria in Campis”. The main entrance has been located since 2011 in a former coach house of the Drostenhuis, which is connected to the other buildings via an underground corridor.
#History
The Provincial Museum of Antiquities was established in 1854. The museum started with one cupboard in the provincial government building, which was part of the monastery “Maria in Campis”. It was housed in the new National Archives building in the early 1900s. The “Receiver's House” was purchased in 1964 and ten years later the museum moved to the provincial house. The Drostenhuis (1978) and the Abbey Church (1982) were also added to the museum. The museum has been called “Drents Museum” since 1996
#SpecialExhibition
Iran - cradle of civilization, 200 treasures from one of the oldest and most extraordinary cultures in the world (2018). With this exhibition, on March 12, 2019 the museum won the audience prize at the Global Fine Art Awards, the Oscars within the museum world.
