Citroenkorst 2

The Netherlands - Muiderberg

On Blue monday a cemetary seemed like a suitable destination, all the more so because cemetaries are lichen hotspots in our country, with a lack on rocks. On the old, 17th Century Jewish cemetary of Muiderberg, where about 45.000 people are buried, through the ages almost all tumbstones have been transformed into works of art by lichens. A rich diversity of circular patches formed by Variospora flavescens (Gelobde citroenkorst) and other Variospora species where found, next to countless other lichen species. © Tom Kisjes
