The Netherlands - Castricum

In this coastal area our drinking water is (further) purified by dunesand. This spot, where the already partly filtered freshwater (from the IJsselmeer) appears at the surface, is called "the jellyfish". In the background I spotted two swimming Common mergansers (Grote zaagbek-Mergus merganser); no breeding bird, but a winter guest in our country. © Tom Kisjes
