Lighting Exercise - Apparent Light Size

Lemon slice on granite.

This was a lighting exercise for the most recent assignment for Lighting 102. You can see what other people did for this exercise, here.

The first shot (top left) was with a bare 580EX II (~1/32 power) on stand over and slightly behind lemon (just in front of the foam core, a couple inches above it).

The second shot (middle left) was with a 580EX II (1/8 power) on stand over and slightly behind lemon. I held a letter-size piece of white paper about 5" from the flash to diffuse the light. You can see this shot with a little more processing, here.

The third shot (bottom left) was with a 580EX II (1/2 power + 0.7 stops) on stand over the lemon. Excatly as shown in the setup shot on the right, but with the camera on the tripod.

Ambient light was completely overpowered in every shot (including the setup shot).

EXIF data is from the first shot but is the same for the other two shots on the left.

None of these frames have had any post-processing other than conversion from RAW to JPEG.

You can see more detail in the larger version.

I got the idea for having the slice of lemon stand up from here.

You can see some setup shots for other images here.
