Aqua Building, Downtown Chicago

A night shot of the spectacular Aqua Building in downtown Chicago, Illinois.

I've already posted another couple of shots of this building but both of those were monochrome. The main reason was that the lighting was predominantly sodium vapour so the whole image started off horribly orange. Generating a black and white, therefore, was basically a cop-out since it meant I could completely ignore the wicked colour cast.

In this case, however, I decided to retain the colour since I liked the coloured splashes on various balconies. I've never actually seen the building during the day but I assumed it is white and corrected the cast as best I could to turn the building neutral. In the process, this yielded a wonderfully strange purple sky. Remember, this was taken when it was pitch black, well after sunset.

Thanks, once again, to Charles Dastodd for introducing me to this fabulous building.

I would greatly appreciate your vote in the 2011 Photoblog Awards. Thanks!
