GEC Z5500B "Brookvale"
This cast iron lantern is the very first version of the Brookvale lantern; dating from c1953. The Z5500 went on to be offered in cast aluminium very shortly after, and then subsequently redesigned as the Z5530 in the late 1950s. The cast iron version can be identified by its use of 2 toggle catches, with 1 bolted to act as a hinge. The aluminium model featured a plain cast hinge instead.
This Brookvale was running an 80w MBFU lamp and still carries the original glass refractor bowl.
After spending its life on a country lane in Devon, a full strip down and repaint will be carried out on the lantern.
