Old hay bailer.

When I was a little kid, I was scared to death of one of these. My mother told me that story many times. About the only thing I remember was the very loud motor on the baler. This is from the days before live PTO (or much power) was common in tractors. It takes a fairly big tractor to pull a hay baler well. I vaguely remember that some people would, clutch, kick the shift lever to neutral and let the clutch out when they came to a big clump in a windrow. The first tractor I ever baled (not a job for kids) with was a 3020 John Deere which did not have any of those problems. That series was a quantum leap in tractors at the time it came out and established John Deere as the dominant tractor (at least in our region).
