Ferguson and Ford made the famous "hand shake" contract where Ford used Fergusons patents on his tractors. The main one being the three polnt hitch. They were advertised as Fords with the Ferguson System. When the relationship ended Ferguson,using his own patents, designed his version of an improved Ford.
Ferguson and Ford sued each other and when the dust settled Ford had to redesign his tractor and Ferguson sold his patents to Massie Harris. When the patent rights expired the three point hitch became the industry standard on all tractors. Massie Ferguson became the worlds largest tractor manufaturer.
