old john deere tractor "LA" model or early styled model L
jdl44 says:
thats actually an early styled model L they never used the herculese engine in model LA's and the LA's had cast iron rims in the rear.
you can tell the herculese engine from the JD engine by a number of ways. model l's with the herc engine will have a cutout in the side of the engine housing for the governor arms to extend out like in that pic, the oil Fill tube (on other side) will be vertical instead of coming out of the hood at an angle and lastly the bell housing will bolt onto the engineblock where as the bellhousing on a john deere built engine will be part of the block.
