Pyramid Lake, Nevada
Pyramid Lake is an amazing place. Not only is the lake itself beautiful, but the area is surrounded by beautiful mountains, fantastic ancient tufas, and other beautiful and interesting features. Pyramid Lake is about the size of Lake Tahoe, yet during the ice age Lake Lahontan, of which this is the last remnant, was about 50 times larger. So basically, northwestern Nevada was one big inland sea with several islands consisting of dozens of mountain ranges. Hard to imagine now.
I suffered a bit for this one. I waded out into the shallow water and despite my best efforts the water soon flowed over the tops of my rubber boots, which made the chilly morning more interesting. :-) But, I really wanted that rock in the foreground. My next piece of photo gear is going to be a decent set of waders.
