04/52 Omnipotence

So here is the image, my text to come soon. Got some great shots at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago and I'll post them as well, but I think this one captures my own form of omnipotence quite nicely (and probably is the most "technically perfect" out of the roll I shot).

Google "omnipotence defense" and you'll receive a whole host of definitions. A quick search yielded this one, which I think I like: "The individual deals with emotional conflict or internal or external stressors by feeling or acting as if he or she possesses special powers or abilities and is superior to others." Read any psychological theory and this word is thrown around like everyone completely understands this idea. I get it in a large picture, holistic kinda way, but to pin it down to a precise definition seems impossible.

I entered this shoot with my definition unconsciously guiding my composition and location. This church wasn't even the first choice I had in mind; I couldn't connect with the location's contact on my day off. And, this image wasn't even my first pick. The outtake in my photostream is the one I originally choose, but after some editing I decided it really didn't fit my personality; i.e., it didn't represent the way I use omnipotence as a defense. I am not gloriously vain, showy or godlike (like that outtake) when challenged or made uncomfortable--but I am quietly smug, keeping my supposed superior skills "appropriately" humble. ;) This image seems to get that.
