This green and pleasant land

Rework of an image taken 10 years ago - the original has been deleted.

The county of Shropshire might be several removed from poet William Blake's London birthplace but, when he wrote of England's green and pleasant land in 'Jerusalem', he must surely have had a scene like this in mind.

The location is near Stokesay Castle and, in its early autumn garb, it's hard not to be taken by the landscape generally, nor the form and textures of the majestic ash tree or the already decaying bracken.

The shot here, taken just below the brow of the hill to capture the dainty (and presumably) sheep trods in the grass, features the train as almost a secondary element. It's probably too far away for most folk but, for the record, DB Cargo 'Shed' unit 66020 is making its way up The Marches line towards Craven Arms hauling the Alexandra Dock Junction - Bescot (6M60) china clay tanks.

I've left the image slightly dark to enrich the tones and draw the eye through to the train. Best viewed full-screen, if it's your sort of thing.
