Trackside Lives
A scene from just outside of Shahjahanpur station in Uttar Pradesh catches the realities of daily life for many folk in India's rural communities. The households will likely own a few cattle, and maybe the odd goat - the grazing will be mediocre at best but between them they manage to provide milk for the family ..... and dung. The latter is typically made into 'cakes' by the women and left to dry in the sun where it will eventually be used as a fuel for cooking or keeping folk warm.
This community was situated between the metre-gauge line to Pilibhit and the electrified broad-gauge line just out of shot on my left, so possibly a railway workers' one.
Completing the picture is the departing 11.15am service to Pilibhit Junction (train 52232), apparently leaving a few minutes early. North Eastern Railways' liveried Alco YDM4 unit 6681 is doing the honours.
