Echoes of the Great Central
Resting on the bridge pillars of the old Great Central route into the much-missed and cavernous Nottingham Victoria station is the relatively new (and rather less substantial) bridge that was purpose built to carry the Nottingham Tramway System over Nottingham Midland station.
Sadly no trams were passing overhead as DB Cargo Tug, unit 60039 'Dove Holes', rolls into platform 3 with a clear road hauling the 12.20pm Toton Sidings - Boston steel 'pig pens' (6E02).
Only the second train-snapping day out this year, courtesy of a visit back to the East Midlands to see family. After recent trips in the car it was nice to let the train take the strain for the first time in over a year. As can be seen from the platforms, while passenger numbers are on the increase, volumes are still well below pre-pandemic levels.
