Memory Lane
Another trawl through the archives finds this previously unused image of GBRf 'Shed' 66751 approaching Worksop station with what's thought to be the 9.21am West Burton PS - Thoresby Colliery coal empties (4K09) back in 2014.
With fossil fuels now considered 'persona non grata', this traffic has all but come to an end on the UK network and Thoresby Colliery, then Nottinghamshire's last coal mine, closed in 2015.
Oddly enough the coal-fired West Burton 'A' Power Station is still operational, although seemingly not for much longer - owners EDF announced last month that the facility will close in April 2022.
The rather splendid signal box is Listed status, so should hopefully grace any images taken around the level crossing for a few years to come.
This contrejour shot didn't make the cut back then, but perhaps the passage of time gives it a bit more interest value? Either way, it’s an image that's better viewed full-screen.
