Welome to the Machine
There's something imposing about the Tunstead quarry complex, a fact re-enforced by the ever-present hum of processes and machinery, and the almost complete lack of any visible human presence.
And so Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine" seems a symbolic anthem as Freightliner Shed 66619 is dominated by the towering structures while slowly drawing into the complex with the 7.46am from Pendleton Brindle Heath (6H43). The empty hoppers won't be empty for long - within a couple of hours they will be loaded with coarsely crushed limestone which will then be transported up to the complex at Dowlow in the High Peak for further crushing into smaller more commercially viable pieces.
