Formerly glorious
At one time rattling to the sight and sound of passing Great Western 'Kings' on the Paddington - Birkenhead trains, and formerly the junction for the Marlow and Maindenhead lines, the delightful ex-GWR station of High Wycombe soldiers on with at least some remnants of its more illustrious past.
Aside from the station buildings, which are thankfully largely intact, the embossed station name-board lingers - perhaps it's not original but it's certainly in the style of. The real GWR purists will be disappointed though - direct services to Paddington are a thing of the past as the station has now switched allegiances to London Marylebone, of Great Central heritage, instead.
Seen here late Monday evening is one of the several freight services that pass this way each day - the 19.14 Calvert - Cricklewood (6M23) returning waste empties, hauled by Shed 66023, and snapped in rather challenging conditions - 1/125 & 6400asa.
