davidhorton1010 says: Wonderfully emotive shot with beautiful use of shadows as an integral part of the story. Unfortunately, I can't get past the processing (or lack of) of this submission. If as much attention was given to the processing of the image as the capture, it would be exceptional. Don't underestimate the importance of processing.

davidhorton1010 says: This image is terrifically emotive, engaging, and mysterious. It has all the essential ingredients. What keeps it from floating to the top for me is the composition. It's not bad, it's just not heightening the drama of the image, which it should. I wish the subjects weren't dead center but more to the right so the line of the fence lead you to them. Regardless, terrific submission.

davidhorton1010 says: A terrific example of combining emotion and mystery. A very effective use of flash—so subtle and natural—an essential element in the success of this image. The combination of natural and artificial light adds an ominous quality that heightens the suspense. (Good choice switching your original submission, Dan.)

davidhorton1010 says: This is a strong and original submission. Beautifully composed and arranged. It's strength is also its weakness. While I appreciate the whimsical nature of the participation of the photographer in the frame, it also tips it over into the slightly gimmicky category. At least for me.

davidhorton1010 says: There's so much energy in this frame, it feels like a limb is going to pop out of the frame. Pure joy in motion.

davidhorton1010 says: There's just so much going on in this frame—so many emotions and possible storylines. I love the cinematic and retro quality of it.

davidhorton1010 says: A beautifully captured, authentically emotional and expressive moment. The middle of the frame is just gorgeous. So much so that the visual information on the right and left sides dilute and distract more than they add or reinforce. Personally, I think a vertical framing would have been more affective.

davidhorton1010 says: Not "technically" as strong as some of the other submissions—I'd love to see some time spent on processing so the water is less murky and flat and the dog pops a little more. But damn, what it lacks in processing, it more than makes up for in originality. Such a fresh and unexpected way to express emotion. Dogs and rainbows—damn! In the hands of others, this would have come across as such a cheesy shot.
