Exercise 1: Linear Buildings
Created: Fall 2005
Site: A fictional 90' x 75' flat rectangle in the historic center of a city. South of the lot is a 24' high brick party wall of an adjacent building, while north of the lot is a small city park. The west lot line is the termination of an important boulevard, while the east faces a quiet neighborhood street.
Description: To design a year round market building with 220 - 3200 square feet of enclosed market stall area. The materials that can be used are (40) precast wall panels 8' x 20' x 1'-6" as well as (23) 4' x 24' x 1'-6".
Solution: The design utilizes a central nave allowing access to all market stalls. Traffic flow is designed for access to the west boulevard and northern city park. The model was built out of cardboard, white foam core, and strips of basswood.
