Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire

What a brilliant weekend!

Finally, after what has seemed one of the chilliest starts to a year, it's finally warmed up. Spent Sunday afternoon visiting Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal near Ripon in North Yorkshire.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the present-day ruins are described as the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monastery in England.

Fountains Abbey was founded in 1132 and was in operation for more than 400 years before Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
