St Peter's Church, Monkwearmouth

Stopped by St Peter's Church on the banks of the River Wear in Sunderland, ostensibly to see how it's looking amongst the wild flowers that are blooming just now.

This building always brings home to me how the city's cultural roots have ancient origins.

Sobering to think that it was founded more that 1,340 years ago!
