Sunderland Bridge, Croxdale, Durham
'Sunderland Bridge', for those not local, is not actually in Sunderland. It's a small village (and a bridge!) just south of Durham.
This bridge originally carried the Great North Road (A1) across the River Wear. The road now crosses a later bridge, built to withstand the higher volume of heavier traffic and was re-designated the A167 (the A1M now follows a slightly different route).
This bridge, in its picturesque setting on the River Wear, is a Grade I listed structure is thought to date back to the 14th century.
