Duke of Portland Boathouse, Ullswater, Cumbria
I've had this place on my photographic to do list for a long time. It's the Duke of Portland Boathouse on the shores of Ullswater in the Lake District.
I was reading that it is one of the most iconic and most photographed buildings in the Lake District, but until now, I'd only ever seen it as a photographic subject taken by others.
It's presently a holiday cottage and the blurb says "... stunning views of Lake Ullswater and the fells can be enjoyed whilst relaxing on the balcony of this traditional boathouse or from the bedroom through the patio doors." Just how chilled and relaxed you can be on that balcony when a steady stream of photographers are point their lenses at you I'm not sure. I couldn't help but notice that the grass where people stand to take photographs had turned to mud!
