Merry Maidens, Cornwall
The Merry Maidens stone circle dates from the late neolithic period and is located 2 miles to the south of the village of St Buryan, in Cornwall.
The circle comprises of 19 granite megaliths and is situated in a field alongside the B3315 between Newlyn and Land's End.
The local legend tells of how the 19 stones were originally young maidens, turned into stone, as punishment for dancing on a Sunday.
