St Ives, West Cornwall
St Ives in West Cornwall positively sparkling in the warm sunshine and blue skies a few weeks back at the end of June.
Cornwall was already busy at this time, despite the fact that the school holidays had yet started.
I believe that towards the end of July, the locals refer to the six-week school holidays as the 'silly season', when popular places like this are almost swamped by holiday-makers and day-trippers. It can't be that great to have your town crowded out in such fashion, however, if those visitors stopped coming, what would happen to the local economy?
I suspect as many schools reopen across England this coming week (schools in Scotland reopened a couple of weeks back) places like St Ives will quieten down a little, not to mention a drop in the sales of Cornish pasties!
