Porthleven, Cornwall

A sunny, warm and benign-looking Porthleven, near Helston in Cornwall. Being one of the many seasonal visitors who flocks down to the South West during the Summer, this is how I think of this charming place.

Porthleven is the most southerly port in Great Britain, and was originally developed as a 'harbour of refuge', when this part of the Cornish coastline was looked upon with foreboding as a black spot for wrecks in the days of sail. Have to say though, I've seen some quite remarkable videos and photographs showing a very different Porthleven, when the harbour has been under attack from stormy seas. Suffice to say, under such conditions, it would be virtually impossible to have been standing on the spot where I took this photograph.
