Glenfinnan Viaduct, Scotland

Back home after a fantastic week in the Scottish Highlands and watching the 'Jacobite Express' crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct en route to Mallaig, was definitely one of the highlights.

There were easily a couple of hundred people gathered to watch the train, some of whom are steam train enthusiasts, but most are those gathered were there because of the Harry Potter connection.

In the film 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' the viaduct features as on of the locations and the steam train is the 'Hogwarts Express'. Such is the popularity of the Harry Potter phenomenon that Glenfinnan is regularly overwhelmed by the number of those who turn up each day to watch the steam train. In fact, there is a steady stream of Harry Potter fans arriving all the time and the historical significance of Glenfinnan is all but lost in the clamour to experience the film location.
