Melbecks Parish Church, Swaledale, North Yorkshire

Holy Trinity Church in Low Row, Swaledale is the parish church of Melbecks.

Built in 1841 to serve mid-Swaledale, it struck me as a church without any pretensions, and simple architecture. It has a very light interior and its slightly high elevation affords it some rather nice views across the valley of Swaledale.

A notice outside invites people to call in and sample some peace and tranquillity. Indeed, not only that, but as you open the door, a light comes on in the entrance lobby to reveal an electric kettle, bottles of water and everything you need to make yourself a cup of tea or coffee. There are even a selection of biscuits to accompany your beverage of choice. Inside the church itself, a selection of locally-made preserves are on sale... now, that's what I call a welcome!
