Avalanche Falls
The 45 foot Avalanche Falls is located at the Flume Gorge area of Franconia Notch State Park, in the town of Lincoln, New Hampshire. The source of the falls is Flume Brook, which runs off of Mt. Flume. The falls is accessed by Flume Path, which becomes a boardwalk as it enters the 800 foot long Flume Gorge. The walls of Conway granite through the gorge rise to heights of 70 to 90 feet, with the width of the gorge varying from 12 feet to 20 feet. Avalanche Falls is located near the far end of the gorge.
If you continue on to the end of Flume Path, it is recommended to turn onto Ridge Path, which loops back to the parking area. The total hike along the loop is a relatively easy 2 miles. Along Ridge Path, highlights include Liberty Gorge Cascade and the Sentinel Pine Covered Bridge.
