Pyramidal

Pyramidal Orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalis) on the roadside verge of Exminster bypass, Devon, England.

A widespread, but local orchid on limestone and chalk, and near the coast, especially on dunes. It's not very common in Devon due to the relative scarcity of calcareous soils, though it may be increasing locally around Exeter/the Exe. I first came across them at this site on the verge of Sannerville Way (the A379) in 2012 when checking the verge after first noticing Southern Marsh-orchids whilst driving past the year before. I've also found Bee Orchids, which also seem to perhaps be increasing locally, here.
