A friend of mine summed them up beautifully a few years ago saying "they are no ***** use in summer and no ***** use in winter".
I should know, we've got one. And we are coming up to the day in the year we can use it - watch this space.
No, this is a "proper 'un". Erected in the Victorian days and it's only right that the begging bowl is out to do it up when there are loads of less deserving causes around. Like people's health. And education.
It was initially built by "public subscription" back in 1900. Nothing changes then. Apart from the amount of money needed now - estimated at about £1,500,000. Yikes.
It is lovely though.
