Silloth Motorcycle Museum

Mrs K and I dropped in to have a look at this little motorcycle museum in Silloth and have an interesting chat with the owner/ curator/ restorer Jim Snaith. We had quite a bit to talk about. For example we both raced Yamahas (Jim was clearly much, much better than I was) having raced in the Isle of Man and he once came in the top three at Daytona. Mrs K and I visited the Daytona 200 twice, but unfortunately not in the years that Jim raced there. He has at least three two strokes in there - a Suzuki 500, a GT750 and a Yamaha 350 - all of which I've had variations of myself

At the end of the visit Jim offered me some stickers which I said I'd put on my top-box on the Kawasaki but he suggested I put them on my tool box instead - in the end he gave me two sets, one for each :-)

Jim was happy to pose in the doorway and for the shot to be posted to Flickr.

This shot is probably in more of my Flickr albums than any other shot - Suzukis, Honda, Brit Bike, Buildings, Signs, Lettering, Northern England, Geotagged, Red, People, Fave'd, Bikes, Two Strokes, European Motorcycles.

We really enjoyed our visit to Silloth. I hadn't heard of it previously but a friend of mine plays golf in the area and recommended it. A massive well kept village green - with a sale of plants by FOG (Friends of the Green), a Victorian pagoda looking out to sea. Some school groups having fun playing on the green and one of the groups was being treated to ice cream from the rather impressive looking ice cream parlour. A lovely wide cobbled main street. Nice cafes - including one dedicated to the famous (I think) singer Kathleen Ferrier apparently who lived in the area. A few "proper" shops (not part of chains). Not anywhere you are likely to be just passing through, but a nice place to spend a couple of hours or so if you are in Cumbria.
