Kebs Road
The nights are drawing in and its getting a bit nippier, so I decided to go out on the Kawasaki and found myself (I really didn't have a plan) up for my annual visit to Kebs Road near Todmorden. The vintage petrol station, pump and Fish & Chip van never ceases to fascinate. It just looks like a scene from yesteryear - not 2022.
The area has been appearing on British TV recently with appearances in Ripley starring Adrian Dunbar - with the Todmorden Wind Farm getting the occasional appearance.
A few minutes later as I was riding towards Hebden Bridge an old gentleman riding an old bike with a passenger in the sidecar was coming the other way. I stopped the bike, turned it around and using quite a few of the 125bhp on tap I chased after the three wheeled outfit which probably had about 4bhp - so it didn't take long! I positioned myself at a junction as I wasn't sure which direction they go in, to hopefully get a photo or two. The chap stopped and we had a quick word which wasn't very clear as he was wearing a helmet and I had "windrush" from wearing mine (not many people realise how noisy inside a crash helmet can be sometimes, especially on a Motorway).
In a nutshell he said the bike (a Humber) was built in 1921 and I said how good it would be to take a photo outside the old abandoned petrol station half a mile down the road which he didn't know about. His group of mates then turned up on quite an eclectic selection of motorcycles and he set off with them. I followed on, half expecting (and hoping) that he would pull up again for a quick snap but I think he needed to keep up. A shame really, but at least I tried.
