Tin Tabernacle
Tin tabernacle, Hassall Green, Sandbach, Cheshire.
This was literally the "end of the road" for my little tabernacle trail. I'm happy to drive up to a maximum of one hour or so to get a shot and according to Wikipedia, there aren't any more within an hour's drive of Kpcv Towers. I guess I might stumble across one, or more, in the future though.
Mrs K had just gone away for the weekend with her buddies which gave me a full afternoon to go and explore before getting back for an evening of al fresco boozing with the lads. "So what have you been doing today, Dave?". Photographing tin churches. "Erm....righto...what are you having to drink?"
Just to clarify; Mrs K has been with me to a few of the tabernacles, but its fair to say that she doesn't generate a lot of excitement for the prospect of finding another one, so its just easier to go on my own.
I say churches in the plural, because I found two in the same afternoon.
This started as a project because of the corrugated-ness of buildings, rather than looking at it from a point of taking photos of churches, so my Flickr album for the shots is called Corrugated - not Tin Tabernacles.
It just so happens that most of the complete corrugated buildings are (or were) churches and as such there was a Wikipedia page which shows the locations of most of the ones in the UK. There isn't, though, a Wikipedia page for corrugated buildings / sheds etc in the UK as far as I can tell, so I just come across those from time to time.
Having no - or few - more tabernacles to photograph might mean a return to taking photos of motorcycles but after my recent surgery I can't ride the Kawasaki too far - it tried recently but it really wasn't a good idea with hindsight.
This is the only pink coloured tabernacle I've found so far and it looks pretty cute I think - situated very close to the M6 motorway which thankfully had no major issues to report during my visit.
If you are wondering what the strange line is leaving the roof, it is a cable. Looks a bit odd and potentially could have photoshopped it out - adds to the quirkiness I think.
