Richmond

A photo taken in Richmond, North Yorkshire in 1981.

When I tried to Geotag it on the Flickr map i hadn't realised how many Richmonds there are in the world - this one surely is the "original"?

I guess the town square doesn't look too different now but saying that we went about 4 years ago so I know that it doesn't! Obviously Woolworths has now gone bust so thats not there any longer. Something happened in a cafe in the market hall that still has us laughing to this day and is one of THE best family photos of ours of all time.

This trip was memorable for one particular thing - we later travelled to Darlington and I first saw a Suzuki Katana 1100 in a motorcycle shop window and said "I'm going to get one of those". And I did.

And we also visited Barnard Castle long before Dominic Cummings made it - and the local Specsavers - famous ;-)

I quite like digging out these old photos from the family archive as my Flickr contacts are usually helpful at identifying the old cars. Adding a note or a comment is always much appreciated in this regard.

Using the great DVLA Vehicle Checker I would have thought that the number plate on the Blue Datsun (Bluebird?) would have been quite desirable but the plate disappeared with the car circa 1985
