Kirkby Lonsdale
I got a text whilst I was asleep with the phone turned off, asking if I fancied a run out on the bike to Kirkby Lonsdale. I've not been for a while so when I eventually woke up I got all the gear on and the bike out of its lair and set off. Unfortunately I forgot to take my camera.
The scene looked quite serene, so I whipped the phone out of my pocket. Hence the quality - its only 635kb.
I've been going to Kirkby Lonsdale since I was a lad. In fact whilst we were there today we were recalling about when we all dashed back to Manchester from there once - to watch the classic 1979 British Grand Prix - the duel between Kenny Roberts and Barry Sheene.
Its not much different there these days - full of hairy arsed bikers. But no pimply youths like there was "back in the day". We used to roam in packs on learner legal 250cc two strokes but you never see that these days. Just Bank Managers dressed up in Harley-Davidson branded clothing and the like.
Tomorrow morning the suits and ties will be on and they'll be driving to the office in their German executive cars....just like me.
Two big changes over the years - its now illegal to dive off the bridge and its 20p for a wee....
