International Garden Festival Liverpool
International Garden Festival Liverpool - sometime in 1984.
The Garden Festival attracted a few million visitors back in the 80s and even though I wasn't that interested in gardens or gardening I thought it was worth a drive "down the Lancs" as we say round here. Or down the A580 East Lancashire Road as everyone else says (even though spookily it doesn't seem to go to or from East Lancashire).
I'm not saying this is the only photo from this position on the world wide web i.e. Photo Point 9 - which seems to have been sponsored by Kodak, but I can only find one similar and that appears to be a postcard.
A couple of years ago I heard that the site had reopened but it was definitely a shadow of its former self.
I've found quite a few other shots from my visit which may or may not appear on Flickr at some point.
Apologies for the horrible watermark but anything like this tends to get blagged (and blogged). I don't mind blogging as such, as long as it links back.
Hopefully it will bring a few memories back from anyone who visited the site "back in the day".
I'm not going to cut and paste any one elses words -but there is a Wikipedia entry and a bit more stuff to look at on the web if anyone is interested in a bit more background on the Garden Festival.
Obviously this was taken in the pre- digital photography days - taken with my Olympus XA and scanned thirty years later using my Canon Pixma MG5650.
Thanks for looking.
