Suzuki GSX 1100 Drag racer or sprint bike?
Another from the archives from the early 80s.
Drag race or sprint? I'd say sprint as it appeared to be street legal but with that extended swinging arm it must have been a bit of a horror to get round corners.
Maybe Santa Pod or Elvington?
Even though I had the 1000cc version of this engine in my Katana, I was never that enthralled with the chunky looks of the standard GSX1100.
Also starring in this photo is a Talbot Express van and a Multipart van. As I have been typing this I've just remembered whose bike this may have been. The MCN columnist and well known drag racer Chris Hampson lived around these parts and he was a mate of a mate so to speak. I've got a vague recollection that he worked for Multipart so it might of been Chris's bike or at least one of his band of racers. There are a couple of shots of Pip Higham / Village Bike Shop related Suzuki bikes in my photostream which could have been taken around the same time.
There is some great drag footage of Chris in action on the Suzuki "funny bike" on YouTube.
Multipart supplied vehicle parts for several makes including Mercedes and Renault
