Scout Moor and Wind Farm, Rochdale, in winter

Wind farms are a pretty emotive subject. Scout Moor near Rochdale - Greater Manchester or Lancashire? Is currently the second biggest onshore wind farm in the UK. There are 26 turbines at present and plans have been approved to add quite a few more (or should that be Moor??).

Electricity generation is a real thorny subject. Everyone wants to stay warm and cosy and be able to run all the "mod cons" that they can fill their house with, but the methods of getting there - and the consequences - are seemingly not acceptable to people - wind, coal or nuclear.

A few days ago I read a well written and well researched article in a major daily newspaper about how many power stations we will need just to power 33 million electric cars once the oil runs out. It might come as a bit of a shock, but it ain't going to be possible. Personally I just don't get the concept of a pure electric car - it may be clean to run in a city but something somewhere is messing up the environment or landscape to generate the power.

Now that reminds me, I must go and charge up my phone, iPod, iPad and cameras before I go out, whilst boiling the kettle for a nice cup of tea to drink whilst sitting in front of the fire.
