Le Tour De France comes to Yorkshire
We were going out for a ride on the motorbikes and felt that a run to our favourite Yorkshire Chippy was in order, Is it worth an hours journey and the best part of 45 miles for a portion of Fish and Chips. Yes it is. They were absolutely magnificent. Checking their website before setting off they had special Tour De France opening hours this weekend. So we rode part of the route of tomorrows stage of the Grand Départ as its known. What an atmosphere! There were flags, bunting and banners adorning lots of houses - camping sites have sprung up, the road has been sprayed with riders names, good wishes and Yorkshire Roses amongst others. Instead of being in the house on a lovely evening there were people milling about and walking the streets some in colourful ( yellow, mainly ) clothing.
There were riders going past waving at the people at the side of the road like this lady with a French style beret and those great Tour De France earrings!
We were chatting to people and there was a bit of a carnival atmosphere. I'm sure it will be a magnificent sight tomorrow.
I'm still not sure why the Tour De France is starting off in my favourite county - but I am pleased that it is.
