Across the Pond.

Whitby Abbey seen from across the Carp pond, on a still afternoon. We're trying to make the most of our exercise periods in lockdown and enjoyed our walk with hand held shots today. The Abbey was of great importance in its day and the Abbess Hilda [later a Saint] hosted a Synod in AD 664 at which it was decided that Easter should be calculated as per Roman, rather than Ionan calculations. The ruins can be seen from miles out of the town and the building must have been splendid in its heyday.
