The Midhurst Belle
The day the gricer circus came to town. On 18th October 1964, the RCTS/LCGB organised railtour gave enthusiasts the last chance to travel over the already closed Midhurst branch in West Sussex. Local people mingled with the rail fans, watching bemused as they swarmed all over the station to record 'Q' class 30530 at the head of the train. The final leg of the tour was a non-stop steam run behind a Merchant Navy class from Brighton to London Victoria, and completed just a couple of minutes quicker than the electric service of the day.
