Saber-Toothed Cat
One of the more famous ancient mammals, the saber-toothed cat was about the size of today's Siberian tiger. Its large canine teeth were brittle and could not have bitten into bone. It's believed that once their prey was subdued, they used these teeth to bite their neck, severing the blood supply and strangliing the windpipe.
